The joy of being with cats

Exactly one month ago, three kittens entered my life. It has been a dream of mine to have cats, a dream that I am so happy to have fulfilled. Coco, Cha Cha and Hana were adopted from a fosterer and had been found abandoned a while back. I fell in love with them the moment I met them: Coco jumped into my arms as Cha Cha rubbed her head on my ankle. Hana was very shy at first, but with time she warmed up to me and crawled onto my lap.

Perhaps it is an essential part of who we are as human beings, or who we are as living beings, but contributing to their growth has brought me much joy. When Coco, Cha Cha, and Hana came into our home, they were small, frightened, and curious. They hid under a cardboard box for a while, then slowly came to explore their larger environment. In just one month, they have each made huge progress in their own ways. Coco and Hana are rambunctious and playful, spending their time zipping around with each other and nuzzling with me. They love belly rubs and close their eyes whenever I hold them in my arms. Cha Cha turned out to be the more timid one: she crawls onto my lap, gazes into my eyes, and releases small “meows”. It brings me immense joy to have my cats sleep in my arms.

All three kittens have grown so much. I have witnessed them opening up to my friends who visit, jump heights they didn’t use to before, and have new experiences like trying wet food for the first time. I look back at their photos from a month ago and am amazed at how much stronger and bigger they are. I am honoured to have played a part in their growth.

With the busy start to the semester, it’s really wonderful to return home to three sweet beings who are happy just nestling in my arms or by my side. Rest with my cats is simply joyful, and I look forward to their continued growth to come.
